These pay for themselves in as little as two years – and can immediately save up to 80% in energy and electricity costs!

Today, we’re highlighting the topic of commercial lighting for you in our energy efficiency blog series. There is a lot of potential hidden here – you can simultaneously save energy and increasingly expensive electricity, and eminently improve the atmosphere for your employees and customers.

Light is a big and important feel-good factor for your employees and customers in your business, but it also makes for more efficient work and a stimulating shopping experience. Many underestimate the impact of lighting until they see and experience the difference in their own operations.

Payback rate as short as hardly any other modernization program

What many don’t know: LED lighting is subsidized by the state in many cases. This promotion applies to indoor lighting, as well as outdoor and street lighting. And in the overall calculus of financing the retrofit of your light fixtures and modernization of your lighting system, taking into account the subsidies and thanks to the relatively moderate and manageable costs plus the high potential for energy cost savings, the payback rate of financing is, on average, only two years. That means you’ll have the money you invested in the retrofit back in your business assets after just 24 months through energy cost savings.

Promotion by the federal subsidy for efficient buildings

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Export Control’s federal subsidy for efficient buildings combines various subsidy programs under one large program. The Federal Support for Efficient Buildings – combines former support programs for the promotion of renewable energies in the building sector and energy efficiency. It supports u.a. new heating systems, the optimization of existing heating systems, measures on the building envelope and the use of optimized system technology.
This also includes the promotion of LED – this has been available since 01.01.2021 available. The purchase and installation costs are subsidized with 20%. The construction support and/or a specialized planning are promoted with 50%. Specialist planning is particularly important if you want to modernize to a so-called “intelligent lighting system”. These systems make it possible to control the lighting intelligently and to define and adjust it individually for each area of your operation. In addition, these switching centers can be coordinated with the ventilation and heating system so that they work together optimally.

Highly efficient indoor and hall lighting

If you want to update your indoor or hall lighting, the installation of high-efficiency lighting is encouraged. This includes the products luminaire, illuminant, reflector and the cover. This must be combined with a control and regulation system that matches the intended benefits. The subsidy rate is as high as 30% in some municipalities.

Intelligent LED lighting technology is a prime example of how technology can be used to achieve our climate protection goals. And how to achieve a high return on investment with investments in climate protection. Immediately after retrofitting, you will demonstrably reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 80%. The investment in intelligent lighting systems pays for itself after ca. 24 months. And that with a service life of approx. 17 years of light sources – without loss of quality. Regular maintenance work is therefore not required.

There are certain general conditions that must be met for the grant to be approved:

  • Luminous efficacy of at least 100 lm/W
  • Luminous flux maintenance of 80 %, with a service life of 50.000 hours
  • Color rendering: the CRI value must be at least 80 RA
  • the control of the lighting system must comply with the reference design according to ENEV (Energy Saving Ordinance) Annex 2, Table 1
  • Proof of at least 50 % greenhouse gas savings
  • Lighting design according to DIN EN 12464-1:2011-08

“Modernizing the lighting and converting it to an automated, intelligent system is recommended for every type of business and company. So you can analyze your energy consumption and the light control also automated and save reports about it. These “reportings” will become mandatory in the coming years. In any case, VPNs can be finicky. Networks are a complicated beast, which means you're more likely to run into problems than not – and one of the most common problems is slow internet speed. If your VPN seems slow, here are some tips to help you out.

1. Choose the right server location

This is possibly the most important thing to note, and it's related to how VPNs actually work.

Let's say you want to use a VPN to bypass certain routing-related issues that bring down your latency in online video games. 5 Uses for a VPN 5 Renewal Uses for a VPN More information. Connecting to a VPN can change how your data is routed across the internet, avoiding problems like intermittent network outages.

Let's say you're in New York playing a game whose server is also located in New York. Typically, your data will arrive at the server on the fastest path and then return to you on the fastest path, resulting in latency of perhaps 20 milliseconds.

Suppose you are connected to a VPN in France. Your data needs to be filtered through this VPN. That means they have to get to France first, then to the server in New York, then back to France, and then back to your device again. That extra distance could mean your latency is now 250 milliseconds.

For speed, always choose the VPN location closest to the final destination if you can. Note that for things that don't depend on latency (e.g. browsing the web), it doesn't matter..

2. Reduce the level of encryption

VPNs can use different security protocols to encrypt the data they let through. Not all VPN services support all protocols, but many of the standard protocols are widely supported.

The thing about encryption is that it can be computationally expensive. Every single bit of data that leaves your device must be encrypted, and every single bit of data that comes back must be decrypted. The stronger the encryption, the more processing power you need.

If your device's CPU isn't fast enough, it can cause a bottleneck when processing data. Even if your Internet can handle 100 Mbps, this does not matter if your encryption is so strong that it only processes data at a speed of 10 Mbps.

Theoretically, the speed hierarchy is from fastest to slowest PPTP> L2TP / IPSec> OpenVPN> SSTP> IKEv2 / IPSec. Take a step back if your device doesn't have enough processing power.

Note that this is only advisable if you do not need maximum security for all activities you perform over VPN. 3. Don't set up a VPN on your router

In general, UDP is much faster than TCP. What is the difference? Well, TCP needs to establish a connection between two endpoints (ex. B. You and a website) and then constantly checking to make sure all data has been successfully received at the destination. UDP only shoots data to the Internet and doesn't care about verifying that the data is getting to where it needs to be.

This extra bit of TCP overhead is slower because when you send data, multiple acknowledgements must occur between you and the destination. Therefore, using VPN over UDP can be much faster. Check your VPN settings to see if manual switching is supported. The process may differ from service to service.

Also note that your ISP may detect and throttle TCP traffic over VPN. This is more common than you might think, as many people use VPN for streaming media and torrenting. Both usually use TCP. Switching to UDP can improve speed, but may result in a more unstable connection. Experiment and see for yourself.

Update your ISP or VPN plans

At the end of the day, a VPN will never be able to increase your internet speed beyond that of your ISP. If your VPN speed is slow because your basic internet speed is low, you have no choice but to upgrade your internet plan to a faster level.

Switching from wifi to cable can result in faster speeds in some cases.

Those who intend to work in Dubai or to establish a company there, must make some preparations and inform themselves about the peculiarities of the metropolis with millions of inhabitants.

Entry Requirements for Dubai

Although you might not think so, the entry requirements for Dubai are simpler than you might think. Before you accept a new job in Dubai, you should familiarize yourself with the country – quasi a look& start See Trip. All you need is a visitor visa.

You can find this list by clicking on the "Multi-level list" icon in the paragraph group of the "Start" tab (see screenshot).

You can also (subsequently) use this list structure to automatically number headings, as long as you give them the right style (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.).) assigned.

Click into a headline and choose the version of the 1.1-Numbering, in which a gray headline lettering can be seen behind each number.

Create and format a new list with multiple layers

Click on the "Multi-level list" icon in the paragraph group of the "Start" tab. Then click on "Define new list with multiple levels…" at the bottom.

If you want your list to be permanently saved as a style sheet and available to you in Word in the future, click on "Define new list type…" instead. Both procedures lead you to the window shown below. Here you can make different settings for each layer of the list, which are described further below.

First select the list level on the left that you want to format. After you have made the desired adjustments for all layers, confirm with "OK".

The created list can be found by clicking on the "Multi-level list" icon in the menu bar again.

When creating a list with multiple layers, the following formatting is possible:

Adjust numbering and enumeration format

Under "Number format template for this layer:" you can set the desired numbering format. Here you can choose between Arabic and Roman numerals, letters or enumeration symbols, among others.

Under "Enter formatting for number:" you can then define how the numbers/letters/symbols should be displayed in the list. Characters that you enter here additionally will be displayed unchanged for each numbering of the respective layer.

You can change here e.g. put a dot, a bracket, a space or a hyphen behind a number or display the word "List item" in front of each number. It's important that you either use the "Number style sheet for this layer:" to automatically enter the numbering into the field (see above) or keep the default setting and don't enter this part manually.

Under "Include layer number from:" you can specify from the second layer onwards whether the numbering of previous layers should come before the current numbering (e.g.B. 1A, 1B etc.).

Customize font size, font color and other text formatting

Click on the "Font" button to open the corresponding window. Here you can change the font, font size and font color of numbering/enumeration characters or apply formatting like bold and underlines.

In the "Advanced" tab you can set the character spacing.

Adjust indents, spacing and text alignment

Under "Number alignment" you can specify whether the list should be left-aligned, right-aligned or centered.

In the "Alignment" field you can specify the distance of the list items from the page margin. If a list level should not be indented and should be on the same level as the rest of the text, enter 0 here.

Under "Text indent" you can set the distance of the text behind a number/ bullet from the page margin.

With a click on the button "Set for all layers…" the selected indents can be applied to all layers of a list and an additional fixed indent can be set for each subsequent layer.

Advanced settings

Click on the "Expand>>"-button in the lower left corner to enlarge the window. Here you can make further settings. At "Start with:" you can select e.g. define that a list does not start with 1, but with a different number. In addition, the count can be restarted after a selected level.

Numbering of headings – Link list with style sheets

The multi-level list can also be used to number all headings in a document.

Make sure that you assign the correct heading level to all headings in your document using a style sheet. Use the styles "Heading 1", "Heading 2" etc.
